Racist Asian Gang Attack Young White Lad In Prestwich

Not just a white on black issue

A 14-year-old boy received serious head injuries after a robbery in Bury.
At around 6pm on Wednesday 4 July 2012, the teenager was walking towards Bury Old Road, Prestwich.

As he approached the junction with Poppythorn Lane and Nursery Road, he noticed a large group of men ahead of him.

One of the group asked him for the time before he was punched in the head, knocking him to the floor.

The victim was searched and had his mobile phone stolen before the group headed towards Prestwich village.

The teenager was taken to hospital suffering from serious head injuries. He is in a stable condition.

The man who punched the victim is described as being Asian, in his late teens or early 20s, had a shaved head and wore a tracksuit.

s believed there were 10 to 15 in the group.  The majority are described as Asian, with at least one member of the group described as white. They were in their late teens or early 20s.

Detective Chief Inspector Sara Wallwork from Bury CID said:
This was a completely unprovoked attack where the victim was punched a number of times in the head, all for a mobile phone.
This has left an innocent 14-year-old boy with a serious head injury that required surgery. Thankfully he is now recovering.
A number of people would have been driving or walking home from work at the time of the robbery and I would ask anyone who may have seen a large group of people walking in the area or witnessed the attack itself, please contact police.

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8150 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
